It’s been roughly a month since the last SoundCloud Sunday so about time another hit your ears. Not to dwell on non-music issues but my previous bout of manflu (mentioned in the last SoundCloud Sunday post no less), disappeard but came back with newly raised armies. It called its damned banners and attacked as actual REAL flu. Or influenza if we are being proper. Anywho, the short of it is I am now ridiculously behind with blogging so I have added a couple of non-Soundcloud bits that urgently require your attention also. Get on it.
THE WITCH KIDS
I have a review of this EP on the go, which should be up very soon so keep your eye out for that. In the meantime you really MUST not miss out on the off the scale level of quality from this debut EP from new indie pop rock duo The Witch Kids. They have also recenlty filmed a video for their upcoming single I Ain’t Buyin so go like, follow and all the social media whatnots so you don’t miss that when it drops. http://thewitchkids.co.uk/
Over to the folk corner next to tell you briefly about Kelly Oliver‘s second album, Bedlam released on this very day, 6th March. If you’re already clued in then you could have pre-ordered and received your copy already but if not, check out below and make it so.
Bedlam is a superb follow up to Kelly’s debut record with some wonderful progression across musicianship and songwriting. It is a very accomplished offering with luscious layers of folk and certainly doesn’t shy away from some of the darker folk tales. The album has been garnering some very well-earned outstanding reviews so make sure you’re checking it out. http://kellyoliver.co.uk/
JACK BY ACCIDENT
Sometimes you just have to be frank. And that’s exactly what Jack By Accident decided to do while working on some music before jetting off on a US adventure. Intuition and instinct urged him to release this two track EP the day he left while he had been prepping tracks for the SXSW festival he’ll be hitting while he is across the pond.
This is another I’ll have a review for coming up, together with his first EP Childsplay which is also available at bandcamp and from which the track Southbanks (Live & Loan) got played on BBC Introducing in Essex last night (Saturday 5th March).
HELP ME OUT
The Bloodflower boys have done it again. Each and every time they astound with their delicious sensational sounds. Help Me Out is the brand new single and the first from upcoming second EP Piano Songs. I opened my latest music podcast with the track last week, which will be repeated on RadioKC from 9PM this Wednesday 9th March.
As ever BBC Radio 1‘s Huw Stephens has supported Bloodflower and Help Me Out has had early plays on Radio 1 as well as BBC Introducing and Radio X. The Piano Songs EP will be released in April together with a video for second single Silence. Cannot wait!
START OVER EP
The Brightest Dusk was the first song I heard from Noisewander via links at RadioKC. It is a stunning song! Right from the off with that imposing yet beautiful piano the song takes you on a delightful ride that is sometimes ballad, sometimes electronica, sometimes a mix of much and many more. There’s a real depth to the genre-spanning nature of Noisewander‘s music and it is wonderfully refreshing.
The Startover EP continues where The Brightest Spark begins by Noisewander taking in life experiences and inspiration then creating some stunning music and songs that fill you with a real sense of joy. As described it features an upeat blend of Pop, EDM and Rock. http://noisewander.com/
It is really difficult not to review everything. It is all so good I want to share my words and thoughts but as you’re aware there just isn’t time enough. Plus, I moulded SoundCloud Sunday to be about sharing the music anyway and not my rambling.
However I have to at least just say GO CHECK OUT SOLLUS NOW! I shared Bitter Pill on SoundCloud Sunday #8, again after hearing it first at RadioKC on another show (not my own, although I will indeed be playing it soon) and now the EP comprising 4 awesome tracks has dropped. It is a corker and features vocals from Dan Frau on The Lights and Beth Williams on Go Back.
Right, let’s crack on then and share loads more. Where I won’t be waffling, I will likely be playing music from the below (or have already played) on my Band of Badgers Presents music podcast which you can hear Wednesdays from 8PM (uk time) at RadioKC. Listen again is at https://www.mixcloud.com/bandofbadgerspresents/.
