Isn’t the Universe a wonderfully beautiful thing? So, following an incredible, if albeit brief, live set from Tom McRae to launch the new album Did I Sleep and Miss the Border – I was of course left in desperate need of more. Lots more. Each and every time, he does this very same thing to me. One night, one set is never enough but naturally I’m always very grateful for the opportunity to see him play at whatever time is possible. The quality just surpasses so much. To witness such passion in his performance after such a long time now is just remarkably energising.

Anyway, Tom has announced a very small number of UK dates for later in the year. Without question I will be there. Not even an apocalypse will prevent me from this experience. Imagine my panic to discover Tom’s London date falls on the very same evening I’m due to see US band Lifehouse in the city. Worse than those tricksy little festival stage clashes. Much worse. I wanted to cry. Sob, even. Instead I set to work on repairing the knackered old TARDIS out in the garage in the hope that bending space and time might just allow me to get to both these umissable gigs. With a heavy heart (and yet still in an awesomely good mood and frame of mind) I could barely contain my excitement when checking my emails the following morning to discover that Lifehouse just that very morning announced an extra London date due to the phenomenal demand. I guess this means it is a good job I no longer have to worry about repairing that TARDIS I don’t actually have in a garage that I also don’t have.

Not only these two gigs am I destined to attend this October, but another two at the least with the quick-selling Editors touring who I will be catching in Birmingham and towards the end of the month it will be fantastic to see the Luke Jackson Trio perform in Milton Keynes. October is going to be briliant!

Right, let’s crack on sharing podcast #27 then. Even more marvellous music for your ears with this one, as it was the first of a number of bumper 2 hour shows. What’s more is that there’s very little waffle from yours truly as I was having some serious microphone issues with recording on the then recently new laptop. I sounded like C3-PO in a tin can so someone aptly put it at the time. Sums it up quite well. Although I was actually caught between this Universe and the next just hanging out for a while. In light of the live October dates it is rather appropriate that both Tom McRae and Lifehouse appeared on this playlist. Also related to someone else on the playlist, I am finally getting to go see Blair Dunlop live this Friday. Very excited about that one.
