What a corker of a show this one was. Opening with my Band of the Year, Band of Last year, okay a genuine all round Best Band Ever to be quite honest – Fort Hope. Plans was the then not so long ago new song from their recent self-titled EP. So much packed into this one song showcases their rather epic talents just nicely but that’s certainly not to take away anything from the rest of the songs on that record. All offer up so much quality you will quite literally burst when you listen to it. Apologies to be still so excitable but you know, it is just wonderful when coming across a new group who push every single button. Heck, they pull every single lever at the same time as pressing those buttons. Terrifically tantalising tunes!
Before cracking on though just a quick mention of an album I’ve received recently and been playing continuously. I finally managed to spare the pennies to buy Ben Howard’s second album. Granted, it was released some time back now and it has been on my ‘MUST buy’ list since then but you know the score. Time, masses of music, oh and the postgrad course I was so busy with too. Plus the dire state of my finances. The list of albums I NEED to buy right now stands at ten, and those are just the ones I’ve managed to scribble down. The actual number will be much higher! Add to this gigs and you get the picture and thus appreciate why it can take so long for me to finally get round to buying something like I Forgot Where We Were.
What a record, though! I was mightily impressed with the debut a few years back and so he has indeed been on my list of ‘live must sees’ but I am yet to achieve this. Having just finished a recent UK tour it isn’t looking good is it? He is playing the new Citadel festival in good ole London Town but chances are I won’t be able to afford tickets to that either *violins please*. Never mind. I can enjoy the wonders and brilliance of some YouTube performances until I get the real thing. I cannot praise this second album enough. Definitely worth your pennies and your ears will most certainly thank you for it.
Oh and also just briefly. I have only gone and won entry to the launch show for the new Tom McRae album at The Slaughtered Lamb in London Town next week. Awesome stuff! As regular readers/listeners will know I’ve been a huge fan of Tom’s music since catching a live show back in 2003. So much so, I wrote an extended Introducing post back in my early blogging days >>here<< and in addition to playing him on the podcast a few times already I ran a 10FromTom feature on the show last year to mark what was the 10 years of his music in my life. I received the new album Did I Sleep and Miss The Border last week. Recorded with The Standing Band it is another mighty fine record that has received some brilliant reviews. It has been too long since I saw him last (2012, I think) so I am beyond excited for this launch show!
Right then. More to share as always but time to crack on. I have Podcast #42 to ready for Mixcloud after all!

I thought as I had shared three classic tracks from Queen in the Queenathon at the end of this show I would do the same with videos. So here’s three different videos of songs from this fantastic British band.
