ye olde fighting cocks4 years ago Jim Kirby started an open mic night at Ye Olde Fighting Cocks in St Albans, Hertfordshire. A year Later (due to work) Jim handed down the task to Martin Robinson just as the pub changed hands to Christo Tofalli and Chris.

Christo and Chris observed the development of a community and a stunning music culture within the walls of the reputed “Oldest Pub in Britain” and decided to invest in the night by buying a complete live music sound system and PA. For 3 years now (including 2 awards for Pub of the Year) Christo and Chris have facilitated one of the greatest regular open mic nights in Hertfordshire!

ye olde 1But the night would not have been as much of a success without Martin. Upon moving to Herts from London Martin brought with him two factors that St. Albans was in need of. A long history of successfully hosting independent open mic nights in the ever changing environment of London and a solo Blues guitar finesse that often leaves the most accomplished of guitarists looking round, nodding and saying “…well that was cool

SaneMartin is also the founder of Ye Olde Fighting Cock‘s Music Academy thanks to his history of teaching and years of study in music.

Within the #‎Bluesfromtheherts‬ project, not only does Martin provide a stunning live performance of raw Blues talent on the album but he also showcases the quality you can expect to hear from the open mic at “Oldest Pub in Britain.”
