Another brief-ish post from me in an attempt to catch up with the huge backlog of marvellous music that needs sharing. Minimum waffle, maximum music!
Misfits is the first and title track from Will’s debut album which is out today. It is packed with lyrical splendour, quite literally. It is a marvel how he manages to sing so fast and faultless with so many words coming out it somehow takes your own breath with it via your ears.
As the first new song in some time from Will, it boded very well for the rest of the album which having heard recently is a hugely impressive collection of tracks. I dearly wish I had time to write a full review because so much am I loving the grand sound the album Misfits captures and pours forth. That said, I am in total agreement with this review >>here<< which came out early last week. Go read, go listen and go buy Misfits! iTunes link >>here<< and it is also available from the the usual, Amazon/Spotify etc. Fear not thee digital phobes or non-phobey peeps too who just like a good ole’ CD as these will become available shortly. http://www.willrogersmusic.com/
WHY WE RUN
What a truly delightful song to drop into one’s inbox. Admittedly I missed the first email from Australian band Why We Run because I get like a million but something made me click on a follow up email from them just before I headed out to the pub for a Friday ale (or two) last night. I am so glad I did so because Comfortable Lie is seriously superb.
I am astonished I haven’t already heard about this band because they have a sound so appealing it needs to be pounced on by everyone. Stay tuned for more from these guys. I have a suspicion they are going to get huge! You can buy Comfortable Lie at iTunes. https://www.facebook.com/whywerunband
THE JUDAS TREE
A PERFECT INDIAN
A stunning and beautiful song from The Judas Tree and another I seemingly stumbled across pre-pub Friday.
THE YEARLING SONG
With a full album, In The Yard, due out soon – which you can and really should pre-order right now just so you don’t get caught up in the life stuff and accidently miss it – it was a treat to come across this video for The Yearling Song live at The Nursery last week.
Hearing the sublime vocals and sounds of Sam made me realise how much I’ve missed hearing them. Looking forward to the whole album of new songs. http://www.sambeeton.com/
(ft. AMANDA ELSWICK)
Words can’t really do justice to the colossal level of beauty this latest song from Sleepthief expresses. So I’ll let you hit play, download and soak it up. It is stunning!
I’ve seen Justin mention his wish to produce a Silmarillion-themed album at some point and although Deus Meus is a reinterpretation of an Irish hymn, this kind of sound would not be out of place on such an album. http://sleepthiefmusic.com/
THE BOONDOCK HIPPY
HIGHWAY 95 EP
I believe this was a case of me being followed on Twitter by The Boondock Hippy, me checking out the awesome music and naturally, following back. The rest is or will be history. I instantly want to see this live because it has such a perfection to the sound, the lyrics, the whole combination of everything about it is wonderful.
Free downloads for you too so go gram ’em NOW! The resulting sound is a fantastic fusion of folk and acoustics no ears should miss out on! http://www.theboondockhippy.co.uk/
Last but most certainly not least I must mention the recent release of Tom Mitchell‘s ‘Stones‘. This is a collection of 6 superb songs for your Saturday, your Sunday and pretty much any time any place. I played the title track on my most recent music podcast (cheeky self-plug but do have a listen >>here<<), and it was not an easy thing to narrow it down to one song as all 6 tracks have that something special.
